Golden arches soon to light up the night sky in Canyon Lake

The Shell gas station at the intersection of FM 2673 and FM 3159 has shut its doors to begin construction for a new conveniece retail center that will also house a McDonald's restaurant.

Michael Garrett of Mid-Tex Oil confirmed the rennovation and said his contacts with the McDonald's franchise are very excited about coming into the Canyon Lake community.

"It will be a fully functional McDonald's with a drive through," Garrett said.

Garrett went on to say that the new store is also a new venture in Mid-Tex's philosophy. The company is focused on enhancing the quality of service that customers receive and making it even more of a convenience to shop there, as well as eat there.

"We are trying to create a very customer oriented, single-stop, retail center," Garrett expained. "In addition to the McDonald's, the retail side will have a beer and soda cave."

Eventually, Garrett said, as technology progresses, they would like to provide their customers the ease of making a food order from the fueling islands and have it waiting for them when they are finished fueling.

The building is scheduled for complete demolition, except for the fueling islands. Garrett said those are new and still have a lot of good use in them. The new builing will definately be larger to accommodate both a retail and a fast food operation.

Garrett said their taget date for reopening is scheduled for either late April or early May, weather permitting.
