Free electricity for PEC members

Members of Pedernales Electric Cooperative received something special to start the new year: all the electricity they used on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day was courtesy of PEC.

The free electricity was paid for in part by a refund of revenue that the Lower Colorado River Authority overcollected from PEC members. Pedernales Electric credited the refund directly to its members, and the free kilowatt-hours and dollar value will appear on members' upcoming bills.

PEC was able to provide this giveaway because of its advanced billing and meter reading systems. Nearly 190,000 meters throughout an 8,100 square-mile service area were read remotely to get the actual amount of electricity used by members during the two days. PEC's distinctive billing software, "foCIS," then performed the necessary calculations.

"These two days of free electricity were PEC's way of thanking members for the high marks they gave PEC on the 2004 J.D. Power & Associates Customer Satisfaction Survey," said PEC Operations Manager Jeanell Davis. "PEC is committed to delivering reliable electricity and outstanding customer service to its members, and we look forward to providing them with more unique benefits and system improvements in 2005."
