SV falls to Churchill

The Smithson Valley boy's basketball team no doubt had things pretty much under control for almost four quarters, but San Antonio Churchill utilized the foul circle in the final seconds to hand the Rangers a slim, 42-39, defeat in the first 26-5A encounter of the season.

"From the first quarter on, we pretty much led much of the entire ball game," head coach Alan Miller noted, "but after that is when we got into foul problems and gave Churchill an easy way to the circle."

Just in the final period alone, Churchill completely out-shot the Rangers, 16-8.

Mitch Keogh, Brad Respondek and Sean Henry each canned 10 points for the Rangers.

I feel that the Rangers played outstanding against a team like Churchill. They need to regroup their defense to avoid such last minute critical fouls that will cost them a win. They no doubt will heat up some faces before the conference season ends.

The Rangers now take on San Antonio MacArthur this Friday at 7:30 p.m. there and host San Antonio Reagan on Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m.[FROM THE PRESSBOX]
