Pawelek, Gore to sign letters of intent By John Kastner, Correspondent Four stellar years of high school gridiron action have payed high dividends for Smithson Valley Rangers Joe Pawelek and Calvin Gore. Both will sign letters of intent today, Wednesday, to play collegiate ball. Pawelek compiled a record-setting 201 tackles. He signs with Baylor to play football next fall and baseball next spring. "I'm excited, and it's a real honor to be getting a Division I scholarship. It is something that a lot of people don't get to do," Pawelek said. Gore signs with Texas State University. "I was fortunate to have chosen Texas State for their outstanding football program. It's something that I feel will benefit my plans and hope that I can help them," Gore said. Pawelek, Gore and Eryk Anders were named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State Football Team. Anders recorded 115 tackles during this season. "Anytime a player is chosen to an all-state team, it is perhaps the biggest honor that any player can ask for. It's a real pleasure for me," Anders said. "I'm especially pleased for Joe, Calvin and Eryk. I know that they will be a great asset in their football careers," coach Larry Hill said. | ||||||||||||||||
