Top Olympian paddlers gather in San Marcos

Not many people think of jumping into a river or lake this time of year with or without a boat. Kayak and canoe paddlers are the exception to that thought.

Tuesday, World Champion Kayaker and Olympian David Hearn, U.S. team members Steve Isenburg and Michelle Clements, and Olympian Ben Kvanli, lead many others paddling on the San Marcos River at the David and Debbie Power Olympic Outdoor Center.

There will be a variety of paddling workshops throughout the week.

0n Feb. 20, San Marcos will be the site of whitewater slalom U.S. team qualifier events. The public is invited to build skills and enjoy paddling with the instruction and coaching of David Hearn.

These clinics will be geared towards paddlers of all skill levels and moderately priced so that everyone has the opportunity to experience the best instruction possible. Texas plays a very important roll in the sport of paddling.

Not only is it home of some of the best paddlers in the world, but it is also home to some of the top training waters including the San Marcos River.
