Wanted: 4- and 5-year-olds for prekinder and kindergarten
The Comal Independent School District will be registering 4- and 5-year-olds for 2005-2006 prekindergarten and kindergarten the weeks of April 4 and April 11.
Parents can register their young children according to the schedule below.
Goodwin Primary (830-221-2200) - April 5 & 6, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., and April 7, 1:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Rahe Bulverde Primary (830-885-1600) - April 4, 5 & 7, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and April 6, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Bill Brown Elementary (830-885-1400) - April 4, 6 & 7, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and April 5, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Comal Elementary (830-221-2250) - April 7, 6 to 7 p.m.
Hoffmann Lane Elementary (830-221-2500) - April 12, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and April 13, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Mt. Valley School (830-885-1350) - April 5, Noon to 7 p.m., April 6, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and April 7, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rebecca Creek Elementary (830-885-1450) -April 11 & 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and April 13, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Specht Elementary (830-885-1500) - April 4, 5 & 7, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and April 6, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
To qualify for kindergarten, a child must be 5-years-old on or before Sept. 1 (state law). Parents need to bring their child to registration, along with copies of his/her birth certificate, social security card, up-to-date immunization records, and two documents showing proof of residency (electric, water bill, phone bill, rental agreement).
To be eligible for prekindergarten, a child must meet the following requirements (federal law): Turn 4-years-old on or before Sept. 1 AND meet federal income requirements OR meet limited English proficiency qualifications OR be homeless. Parents need to bring their child, copies of proof of income (if applicable), child's birth certificate, social security card, up-to-date immunization records, and two documents showing proof of residency. Documentation is required to determine if the child is eligible for prekindergarten. A current Free or Reduced Lunch application (if applicable) must be completed in August for the year in which the student will attend prekindergarten.
