Collision sends students to hospital Cameron Cheatum, 16, of Bulverde was taken by AirLife to University Hospital after his Toyota Celica was struck by a 1995 Dodge Dually 3500. His passenger was also transported by AirLife. According to Department of Public Safety Cpl. Rick Alvarez, Cheatum misjudged the distance of the truck, traveling on Smithson Valley Rd., as he left Smithson Valley High School. Cheatum pulled out of the SVHS entrance to turn left onto Smithson Valley Rd. and was struck. Alvarez said his investigation showed the 22-year-old driver of the truck did not have time to stop. Excessive speed was not a factor. EMS cut Cheatum out of the Celica and fought knee-high grasses and rocks uphill to deliver him to AirLife. According to Audrey Cheatum, Cameron's mother, he is "doing good" and was expected to be released by Tuesday. "Thanks for all the support and prayers from SVHS," she said. | ||||||||||||||||
