Same-sex marrige amendment provokes complaints by gay and lesbian rights groups Gay and lesbian rights groups have sponsored a series of television ads that will oppose a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriages. The ads began airing in Houston last week, according to the Associated Press. Proposition 2 would amend the Texas Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, although same-sex marriage is already banned by state law in Texas and in more than a dozen other states. A group opposed to the proposed amendment that would ban gay marriage on the Nov. 8 ballot filed a complaint last week against the Texas Restoration Project, a nonprofit group that supports defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. The Texas Restoration Project is a coalition of religious leaders across the state campaigning in support of the amendment. | ||||||||||||||||
