Some good news about flu vaccine availability

Great news from the Comal County office of Public Health!!! We did receive the rest of our flu vaccine. We will be going ahead with our senior citizen clinics as previously planned.

We will be going strictly by the COC guidelines while screening patients for vaccination. The senior clinics will be for age 65 and older ONLY. (Please see accompanying schedule below*)

There is still a shortage across the nation and in Comal County. Locally, we ave polled the physicians to assess how many doses are available in the community. All providers are asked at this time of shortage to administer vaccine according to the CDC guidelines. (See priority groups listed)

At Comal County Public Health Department, we will see those patients that had previously scheduled appointments and screen them according to the DC guidelines, as well. We are calling today to schedule our other high-risk group clinics, and will start calling back our list of those who are medically fragile.

Many of our healthy patients who take the vaccine yearly as a preventative health measure, and have already made their appointment with us, have been calling and offering their dose and appointment to be used for high risk patients. We appreciate this honorable gesture.

Citizens are reminded that some of their own health care providers have received vaccine, and that they can call, their offices. We are working together in the health care community during this time of shortage to insure that those with the greatest need are protected. Again, this is according to the quidelines from the Center for Disease Control.
