PEC launches "WOW!" campaign Pedernales Electric continues to experience power interruptions caused by heavy equipment contacting PEC power lines. Fortunately, there have been no serious human injuries, despite the enormous potential danger. However, these incidents damage PEC facilities and inconvenience members. In response to these accidents Pedernales Electric is launching "WOW! Watch Out for Wires," an informative campaign to alert the public to the lethal nature of electric lines. Overhead lines are not insulated. Any contact, physically or through equipment, can have devastating consequences, including serious burns, loss of limbs or even electrocution. State law requires that workers must contact the local utility at least 48 hours before work begins within 10 feet of power lines. When planning to work around Pedernales Electric lines, call 1-888-554-4732. A PEC representative will visit the job site to establish safe clearances so equipment stays clear of electric wires. Failure to notify PEC and establish clearances could result in fines up to $1,000 or jail time up to one year, or both. Persons or businesses involved in a line contact accident are responsible for all damages to Pedernales Electric facilities and all liability incurred by PEC for private property affected by the incident. PEC's Speakers Bureau can educate community groups about
the law and precautions to take when working around electric lines. This
free service is available by calling Pedernales Electric. | ||||||||||||||||
