CISD School board

president resigns

Nick Nichols, a member of the Comal Independent School District's board of trustees since 1999 and the board's current president, submitted his resignation at the conclusion of the board's regular meeting.

The school board must take action and officially accept the resignation at a future school board meeting. It is at that time that they will decide how to proceed with filling the vacancy.

"Current medical conditions require my immediate attention and my rehabilitation will be a lengthy process," says Nichols. "ìWe have made a lot of headway since I've been on the board, a lot of systems have been put in place, and the district is in good shape."

Nichols represents single-member district 3 that encompasses Comal County north of Canyon Lake and some of Spring Branch on the western side of the county. He was the board secretary from 2001 until May, 2004 when he was elected president.

"We regret Mr. Nichols' resignation but fully understand that his health and well-being come first," says Nancy Fuller, superintendent. "His leadership on the board has been instrumental to the district being able to move forward in several areas including school bond projects."

Nichols' three-year term on the board expires in May, 2005. As in the past when vacancies have occurred, the school board could choose to appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the regular election in May.
