The Enclave brings luxury homes to north side of lake

by Crystal Gottfried, Staff Writer

"An enchantingly serene, lakeside paradise" will soon grace the north shore of Canyon Lake, encompassing the Canyon Lake Airport as part of its plan to be an upscale, exclusive community of luxury, custom built homes, "unmatched by any other development in the area."

The Enclave at Canyon Lake, the perfect dream of developer Johnnie Long Sr., promises to create a unique residential community at Canyon Lake that encompasses trade-marked architectural designs and guidelines to ensure that the vision of exclusivity, prominence and brilliance will be met.

"It's very unique. We have a huge potential here," Long said. "I knew this property was a great opportunity. It's exciting just to think about it.

"We are planning The Enclave to be a very exclusive place that is designed as a highly-restricted combination of four of the best developments I've seen," he said. "A first class development."

Long, a custom home builder for more than 30 years in Comal County, New Braunfels and the Hill Country, found the property adjacent to the Canyon Lake Airport when he was building a home in River Chase for the land owners.

Located across from King's Point on the north side of the lake, The Enclave property was terraced so that the planned one-to-four acre lots would naturally spread one above another, offering open views of the lake.

Out of about 90 home-sites, there will be a limited number of prime waterfront lots and a large number of lots with spectacular lake views, and others with access to the Canyon Lake Airport.

New homes would be required to have a minimum of 2,800 square feet of living area.

Amenities planned for The Enclave include a beautifully designed club house and pool near the entrance to a 28-acre waterfront park with a 180-degree panoramic view of Canyon Lake.

Located on the southern tip of the peninsula, the park would provide easy access to exercise, hiking and bike trails, picnic facilities and fishing along the shoreline.

The Canyon Lake Airport, with hangars and a 2,600-foot runway adjacent to the lake, will also be a part of the development plan. However, it adjoins The Enclave and would not be a part of "the view."

In fact, 14 of the lots which are now in the plat and permit approval process are located along the runway and would allow home owners to build hangars as a part of their residences.

Long Builders, Inc., plans to feature its new and unique Texas-Tuscan style of architecture at The Enclave.

Texas-Tuscan is an adaptation of Hill Country style home building combined with the Old-World look of aged plaster on stone. New homes would feature a low pitched roof in the Tuscan style with metal or tile roofs and stone exteriors.

Starting Feb. 1, Long will offer one of The Enclave's premiere lots with lake frontage for sale by closed bidding. The opening bid is $450,000 and bids will be accepted through the end of March.

To be among the first to select one of the 90 spectacular one- to four-acre lots to create a special place to call home or the perfect weekend retreat, use the company's contract form from its website at

Bidders can print out the form, enclose a check for the down payment, fill in the price they want to pay and submit it to the sales office in a sealed envelope.

Long said that he plans to keep the top three bids in case the first bidder does not close on the property.

Other lots are expected to retail for between $150,000 and $500,000.

According the Long, The Enclave will be built in two phases, with Phase I starting this month.

"We're going to resurface and reseal the airport runway this year and build a deer-proof fence around it," he said. "The airport will be an important amenity for buyers who fly their own planes, but it doesn't overpower the rest of the property.

"And, there's great bass fishing right off the point," he said, "where the underbrush and submerged trees make the perfect bass habitat."

Long may build a second home for himself at The Enclave some day.

"I kind of picture myself on a bench down at the pond or the lake, fishing with my grandson," he said.

The Enclave at Canyon Lake is conveniently located 40 miles north of San Antonio and 20 miles from New Braunfels on the north side of Canyon Lake. There is an on-site sales office at 1305 Country Pike, off FM 306.
