Gray wins Court at Law seat
by Kevin Force, Editor The County Court at Law #1 seat was one that the incumbent stood no chance. That's because Judge Brenda Chapman did not run for re-election, paving the way for newcomers Randy Gray and Stephanie Bascon to throw their hats into the ring. And by presstime Tuesday night, it was Gray who held the lead in the race with 59 percent of the vote. Gray, a Canyon Lake attorney, unofficially received 5,355 votes as of presstime on Tuesday to Bascon's 3,767. Official counts will be released on Wednesday. Gray could not be reached for comment, but spent the evening with his supporters at Seekatz Opera House. Bascon also spent the evening with her supporters. "Well, of course I'm disappoijted that we didn't pull it out, but I'm grateful for all those who did support me," Bascon said. "I met a lot of wonderful people during the course of the campaign and enjoyed making so many friends throughout the county. I know I have really benefitted from those contacts." Bascon said her immediate goal was to spend a little time with her family before returning to her legal practice. "We've spoent a lot of time campaigning these last few months," she said. "I wouldn't do anything differently," she added. "We ran a great race, and I'm proud of the race I ran."
