Rangers eye playoff berth in Friday’s contest against Reagan

by Paul Heidelberg

A victory for the Smithson Valley football team this Friday in a home contest against Reagan of San Antonio would clinch a 26-5A playoff berth for the 11th consecutive year.

The undefeated Rangers have racked up a 7-0 perfect record this season.

“It’s another big game,” said Smithson Valley head football Coach Larry HIll. “It would also put us in position to then shoot for a district championship in the final two weeks.

“So, it’s a big game from that standpoint. On the other hand, we’re approaching it like all others – trying to be meticulous in our practices, meetings and everything. We’re covering details as well as possible to put us in the best position to win Friday.”

The Rangers are ranked No. 4 in Texas in 5-A football and 20th in the nation by USA TODAY newspaper.
