Sharon Bryce spent the last couple of years near her computer, anxiously awaiting news each day that her son, Army Sergeant Brandon Rodgers, stationed in Iraq, was safe.
She sought the help and moral support of other mothers with military sons and daughters on duty in the military missions overseas and, along with good friend, Lisa Linder, has been a member of the San Antonio Chapter of Blue Star Mothers for several years. Now that Rodgers is safely home from his tour of duty, Bryce continues to reach out to other military parents and relatives by helping organize the first chapter of the Canyon Lake Area Blue Star Mothers.
“Chris Peche, the President of Blue Star Mothers in San Antonio had been encouraging me to get a chapter started here in this area so after our Canyon Lake Freedom Walk on September 11, and after meeting a couple of other local moms with sons serving in Iraq, I realized how badly the parents need a support system,” said Bryce. “I’ve always felt very strongly that ‘you can hate the war but love the troops,’ so supporting them and promoting patriotism is what Blue Star Mothers is all about.”
