My year in review

The year 2007 has been a remarkable year for me. After returning from a deployment to Northern Iraq in Late January and released from active service in March, I lucked into a position here, at the Times Guardian Newspaper. Working for the Times Guardian provided an amazing opportunity, the opportunity to meet folks from all over the county. What I mean by this is that I have met a great many folks in my travels throughout the county reporting on a myriad of events and you have, through your readership, gotten to know me. And that you have taken the time to read what I have observed and reported, is an Honor.

2007 welcomed new athletics teams to area

This year, the area saw a lot of things happen as far as sports – some good, some not so good. But any time that a new football program arises, it’s a big deal, especially in Texas. The Canyon Lake Hawks brought excitement to the area and have already established a loyal fan base, despite having not yet competed as a varsity level team. They’ll save that for next fall.
As for the Rangers, they showed their dominance once again on the gridiron, smashing all opponents – except for one. And while their loss on Dec. 8 may still sting some Smithson Valley fans, it has to be included in the year in review. After all, it was one of the most amazing comebacks that will ever be seen in the high school playoffs, and you have to appreciate a football game that compelling.
