Canyon Lake man seriously injured in auto accident By Richard Zowie Times Guardian Staff Writer A Canyon Lake man was seriously injured late June 15 when his car collided head-on with a truck about a quarter mile south of Purgatory Road on FM 306. As of June 21, Preston Owen had been upgraded to fair condition at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin according to Amber Cunningham, patient on-call representative for Seton Health Care Network (Brackenridge's parent company). Previously, Owen had been listed in serious condition and, earlier, critical. Owen was driving a Ford Festiva when his car crossed the centerline and collided with a Dodge truck. Both he and his seven year-old son were wearing automatic shoulder belts but not lap belts, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. A witness at the scene said Owen crawled out of the car. Owen's son reportedly was also able to crawl out of the vehicle. Both Owen and his son, due to weather issues that prevented any flights from going into nearby San Antonio, were transported by Starflight to Brackenridge. His son was treated for minor injuries, but Owen suffered closed head injuries (brain injury or trauma without a fracture to the skull). His son has since been released by the hospital after being treated for minor injuries. The truck driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. | ||||||||||||||||
