Bullet-proof vests donated to constables To members of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce, our sincere appreciation Special to the Times Guardian By Ben Scroggin Constable, Pct 4; Constable Elect, Pct 1
On behalf of Constable Elect Shane Rapp, Pct 4 and all our Deputies, I wish to express our most sincere appreciation to members of the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce for their exceptional support. During the month of July 2004, the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce conducted their "Serve and Protect" mixer. This function has been established to express the Chamber's support to the County Fire & EMS units, Comal County Sheriff's Office and to the Constable's Office, Precinct I and Precinct 4. To my surprise, on Tuesday evening, July 27, 2004, at the Randolph Air Force Base Recreation Center, located on the north side of Canyon Lake, Constable Elect Shane Rapp, Pct 4 and myself Constable Ben Scroggin Pct 4, Constable Elect,, Pct I , were presented with Certificates of Appreciation from the Chamber, a plaque from Randolph Air Force Base Recreation Center and a CHECK for $3,917.00. "WHOA" ... "What a delightful surprise of expressed sincere appreciation and support from several Chamber of Commerce members. These monies will be used to purchase bullet proof vests for our personnel. A good vest costs about $500 each and most have a life of some five years. When a Constable hires a deputy, this individual must provide his own equipment at NO cost to the Constable's Office. There is NO monies authorized for this equipment. Such equipment includes his uniform, leather, weapon and protective vest. So, with this donation, we will be able to not only purchase new units to replace outdated vests, but purchase vests for some officers that do not have vests.
