Canyon Lake man arrested on sexual assault charge

by Crystal Gottfried, Staff Writer

Comal County Sheriff's detectives arrested a Canyon Lake man last week on charges of assault of two girls.

County Court-at-law Judge Brenda Chapman ordered the arrest of 48-year-old Paul Douglas Archer, who lives in the 300 block of Dreamland. Bail was set at $400,000.

Archer was booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact.

An investigation began after one of the alleged victims reported to an adult that she and her friend, both of whom are pre-teenagers, were sexually assaulted by Archer.

After interviewing both children, Detectives Tommy Ward and Vance Weltner determined that they had enough information to seek two search warrants for Archer's residence. Investigators did not reveal what evidence was found at the residence except that it corroborated the girls' statements.

If convicted, Archer could face from five to 99 years in prison on the sexual assault charge, a first-degree felony, plus two to 20 years in prison on the indecency charge which is a second-degree felony.
